Neighbor records video of APD officer beating dog

An Austin police detective has been charged with animal cruelty after a neighbor recorded video of him beating his dog with a broomstick.

That officer is also charged with child endangerment for putting his son at risk of being bitten.

A complaint was filed against 47-year-old Chris Vetrano.

In May, one of Vetrano's neighbors in Kyle recorded video of the APD sergeant beating, punching and kicking his dog named Shelby.

According to the arrest paperwork, the neighbor confronted Vetrano asking what he's doing.

Vetrano responsed with, "I’m beating my dog!" and to "mind your own business."

Kyle police say the video also shows the dog beating taking place in front of Vetrano's son. Child protective services were notified said officials.

Authorities said the dog abuse could have caused the dog to attack Vetrano's child putting him in danger.
