Eagles nesting in the Channel Island National Park near Ventura, California experienced a little shake of their own when an earthquake hit Thursday.

Known to online watchers as the Sauces Canyon eagle chicks, the Sauces Canyon Eagle Cam captured the moment the quake shook their tree and nest.

The video shows an adult eagle with three eaglets in their nest as the quake begins to shake.

The adult eagle looks quickly to its right and left before flying away from the nest. The adult eagle returns quickly to check on the eaglets, as the shaking subsides.

The magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time. It was the strongest to hit the region in several years. It struck near the Channel Islands, about 40 miles from Oxnard, Calif.

The earthquake was centered approximately 15 miles southeast of the nest.
