No Refusal Weekend Ahead Of New Year's Day
AUSTIN,Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The countdown to midnight on New Year's Eve is full of anticipation and excitement, and in many cases many will end the night toasting champagne.
The New Year’s Eve holiday can also lead to some bad decision-making, resulting in drunk driving incidents that can quickly turn a carefree night into a disaster.
The Austin Police Department want to help keep the public safe and are conducting a No Refusal initiative on Dec. 29 through Dec. 31. It will run 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day.
The No Refusal program is an enforcement strategy that allows jurisdictions to obtain search warrants for blood samples from suspected impaired drivers who refuse breath tests.
