A man is in the hospital Friday morning after a shooting behind an office building on South Congress.
According to Austin police the shooting happened in the back of the parking lot located behind Congress Square II.
The shooting took place as employees were arriving to work.
Police said reports of gunfire came in around 7 a.m.
At this time police do not believe the incident was random and the suspect is still at large.
Witnesses said suspicious activity happens often in the parking lot and inside the building itself.
Neil Canfield who works in the building said he walked out to see what was going on.
"We thought it was drug-related. There are a lot of homeless people that come in this building. They have locks on the door and locks on the bathroom doors so and actually maintenance personnel told us to keep our doors locked when we're not in it because different electronics have been stolen before perpetrators saying there with maintenance but they're not," Canfield said.
Police have since let people back inside of the building and re-opened the parking lot.
According to Austin Travis County EMS a man in his 50's was shot. He was taken to UMC Brackenridge Hospital with critical life threatening injures.
Police have not confirmed what lead to the shooting. More details at 5.
