Police: Arlington bus driver caught on camera with student
ARLINGTON, Texas - A bus driver for the Arlington Independent School District is accused of allegedly having an improper relationship with a student.
Chima Nsi was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Arlington jail.
Arlington police said they got a report about an incident involving Nsi and a 17-year-old student. They were the only two people on the bus when it happened in late September.
The arrest warrant affidavit refers to the victim as John Doe. It says “John told officers he is sometimes alone with the suspect on the bus and they have engaged in inappropriate conversations."
The affidavit says the student then later “told a friend and the friend reported it to the school."
Police said the report was corroborated by the school’s bus surveillance system.
"Our detectives were able to interview the bus driver who provided details related to the offense and denied certain portions,” said Arlington Police Lt. Chris Cook. “But at the end of the day again, we had overwhelming evidence through the use of the video surveillance system."
According to the affidavit, "the suspect said it was John's idea to pull the bus over."
Arlington ISD said Nsi has already been fired. The district said there was nothing in his background to indicate any concerns when he was hired in August.
Nsi was arrested previously for child indecency as a juvenile, but he was not convicted. He has been previously convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Nsi’s bond was set at $15,000.
The school district is cooperating with the police investigation.
