Police investigating two separate crashes that left two dead

The Austin Police Department is investigating two separate crashes that left two people dead.

The first crash happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 in the 8100 block of North Lamar. Police say a woman in her 30s was hit by a vehicle that left the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle is described as a possible four door sedan.

Police are speaking to witnesses to figure out what exactly happened and they say that there are surveillance cameras in the area that could help with the investigation.

Just a few hours later there was another crash in the 7400 block of East Riverside right near Ben White.

Austin-Travis County EMS says that a man in his 40s was hit by a car. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Police say based on initial evidence the victim was not crossing from a designated spot.

In this second crash, police say the driver did stay on scene and cooperated with investigators. As of now no charges have been filed.
