Police: Man tries to shoot ex-girlfriend several times

BUDA, Texas - The Hays County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a man who they say attempted to shoot and kill his ex-girlfriend.
It happened around 1 a.m. Saturday on Oct. 1, police were called to a woman’s home in the Shadow Creek subdivision in Buda.
According to police the victim reported that her former boyfriend, 37-year-old Michael Dean Sergeant II, pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at her and pulled the trigger several times but it did not fire.
A deputy responding to the 911 call saw a man matching Sergeant's description walking in a nearby area and stopped him.
After identifying Sergeant, police searched him and did not find a gun. The gun was later found in a backyard of a neighboring home where children live after searching the area.
Sergeant was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, a second degree felony. His bond has been set at $200,000.
The sheriff’s office said it expects additional charges to be filed this week, including tampering with evidence, theft of a firearm and abandon/endanger a child.
