Shaquille O'Neal, Houston officer cover cost of Jazmine Barnes' funeral

The deadly shooting of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes has captured the attention of the nation. Now, a basketball legend and a Houston first responder are stepping up to help her family.

Shaquille O'Neal and Houston Senior Police Officer Kenneth Miles are covering the costs of Jazmine's funeral. Officer Miles is dropping off the cashier's check Friday morning.

Jazmine Barnes was shot and killed while traveling in a car with her mom and sisters on Sunday morning. The person responsible for her death remains at large.

Calls for "Justice for Jazmine" have spread from Houston all across the country. Celebrities have been vocal on social media, including Gabrielle Union who tweeted, "Find him! This evil monster must be stopped!"

On Thursday, Houston Texans player Deandre Hopkins announced that he would dedicate his playoff check this week to help Jazmine Barnes' family with the funeral costs and to support the search for her killer.

Hopkins wrote on Twitter, "When I see Jazmine Barnes' face, I see my own daughter. I'm pledging my playoff check this week to help her family with funeral costs and to support @shaunking @SherriffED_HCSO @SylvesterTurner in bringing this man to justice. On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine."

A community rally for Jazmine Barnes will be held on Saturday, January 5 at noon at the Walmart Parking Lot, 5655 E. Sam Houston Parkway in Houston.

The location for Jazmine's funeral on Tuesday has changed to the Community of Faith Church off Pinemont Drive. The viewing will be at 10 a.m. and the funeral will be at noon.
