Small business owners against paid sick leave idea

The City of Austin wants private companies to provide paid sick leave to their employees.

Next Thursday, the city council is expected to vote on a mandatory paid sick leave policy.

But not everyone is on board with that idea.

Some small businesses are against it.
Small businesses worry that things could get expensive, and they will have more of a burden.

But advocates say the policy provides families the time to take care of themselves and not lose money if they get sick

We're told the ordinance would allow workers to accrue paid sick time throughout the year.

The plan calls for one hour of paid sick time for every 30-hours worked.
FOX 7 Austin’s Mike Warren and Rebecca Thomas talk to Executive Director of Austin Independent Business Alliance Rebecca Melancon about the proposed ordinance and why some small businesses are against it.
