Suspect arrested in connection to hit-and-run death of 5-year-old

A man has been arrested in connection to the death of a five-year-old girl who died after a hit-and-run crash.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 22-year-old Jorge A. Granados in Slidell, Louisiana on April 16. Granados will be extradited to Austin to stand trial. He's currently charged with failure to stop and render aid which is a second degree felony.

The hit-and-run crash happened on March 21 at around 7:40 a.m.

Police say a 2013 blue Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Teri Road approaching Palo Blanco Road and a 2010 Toyota Venza was traveling norhbound on Palo Blanco turning left onto Teri Road when the crash occurred.

The Ram hit the Venza and all occupants of the Ram fled on foot.

The occupants of the Venza were taken to the hospital and five-year-old Illianna Martinez later died from her injuries on March 30, officials say. Martinez's family announced Illianna's death on April 2.

Granados will be extradited to Austin to stand trial. He's currently charged with failure to stop and render aid which is a second degree felony.

Police had identified Granados as a suspect earlier this month.
