TCSO identifies man involved in deadly kidnapping

The Travis County Sheriff's Office has identified the man involved in the aggravated kidnapping that turned deadly earlier this week as 25-year-old Tomas Vences-Martinez.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating this aggravated kidnapping.

According to the Austin Police Department, it all started in Central Austin in an HEB parking lot off of Burnet Drive on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Senior Police Officer Veneza Bremner with APD said the initial call came in as an aggravated kidnapping around 1:30 in the afternoon.

The incident involved two individuals who knew each other.

“The good part about being out in public like this we did have several witnesses and we were able to obtain some video detectives are going to take a look at and everything as well,” explained Officer Bremner.

Bremner said another agency, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office were also investigating the same incident.

Just before 3 pm on the same day, a woman called 911 and said a man had shot her and shot himself.

Deputies were able to locate the woman on Aqua Verde Drive.

Medics with ATCEMS transported a woman in her twenties from there to the South Austin Medical Clinic with seriously potentially life-threatening injuries. Vences-Martinez was declared dead at the scene.

According to APD, a 10-year-old family member was present during the incident. He is safe and has been reunited with family. The 10-year-old boy is not the child of the suspect or the victim.

TCSO is conducting the investigation into the death of the male.

The Austin Police Department is investigating the kidnapping of the woman.
