Trump motorcade avoids supporters, protesters outside Northwest Austin Apple facility

The presidential motorcade avoided the large crowd that had formed Wednesday outside of Flextronics International, but that didn’t stop the cheers or the jeers from those at the Northwest Austin location.

“We are all going to call him on his lies, on his misogyny, on his white supremacy and on his policy which are dividing this country and really the world,” said Karen Jambon.

Marianna Waite, a Drippings Springs Trump supporter, had a much different opinion.

“Oh gosh I have to be here I’ve been Facebooking, talking to people in person, but to actually support him in person was important for me to be here,” Waite said.

Austin police spent the afternoon keeping protesters and counter-protesters separated. There were only a few heated confrontations. At least two people were pulled out and detained by police, and a Trump pinata took a severe beating.

For the most part the political division on display Wednesday stayed firmly on either side of Riata Trace Parkway.

“I just think everything that’s been going on since he took office is just not right, that’s not how I grew up," said Rick Davis.

Across the street, Katherine Ehresman hung tight with the vocal Trump supporters

“There are people that believe in what he’s doing and appreciate what he is doing and we wanna make sure that he knows there is support here even in a not so conservative part of Texas,” said Ehresman.

Party loyalists were not the only ones who couldn’t avoid this political stage. Extremist political commentator Alex Jones rolled in. Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell made an appearance and Ted Endicott came from Lampasas with a load of Donald Trump ducks to sell. He wanted to make a few dollars and make a statement about Trump’s economic policy.

“He appreciates Apple staying here and providing jobs and pushing forward the Texas economy,” said Endicott.

The day ended with both sides having their say, with one exception. They didn’t get to say anything to the man they came to see.
