Two deaths following office shooting, vehicle fire
THE WOODLANDS, Texas (FOX 26) — The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation after gunshots were fired inside a building on Buckthorne Place near Grogans Mill Road in The Woodlands area.
"It was startling when they came running through, yelling 'hands up,' said Heather Byrd. "We were scared a little bit. We were startled to say the least."
Byrd's office is on the second floor. The shooting was reported on the first floor.
"I looked down on the ground and I said to one of the officers, 'Did you see that clip?' She said, 'Yes, don't touch it," described Byrd.
"My office partner called me immediately and said, 'There's a shooter in the building! Run! Don't come back in here!,' so I ran and got to the other building and there was a woman there with a bloody face," said Meredith Pursell. "And she said her ex-husband was in the building with a gun. I don't know if he shot her. Someone said he punched her in the face."
"Deputies located at the scene one victim of a gunshot wound," said MCSO Captain Tim Holifield. "That victim succumbed to the injuries at the scene."
Approximately half a mile south of the office building, deputies apparently found the body of the suspected shooter and a burned-up sport utility vehicle.
"At the scene, another person also succumbed to injuries, particularly by the crash," Capt. Holifield.
On Saturday, the sheriff's office identified the man killed at the business as 54-year-old Brent Brock, an employee in the building, and the suspect was identified as 63-year-old John Williams. Detectives believe Williams was the man found in the fatal car crash.
Deputies say the initial investigation suggests the shooting stemmed from a personal matter.
Deputies aren't saying much about the relationship between the two dead men or if the gunshot victim was the intended target.
