Woman killed while trying to assist motorcyclist hit in Killeen

A woman was hit and killed in Killeen after she got out of her car to help a motorcyclist who had just been hit by a car. 

The fatal crash happened at the intersection of 38th Street and Water Street around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, according to the Killeen Police Department. During the course of their investigation, police officers were able to determine that a motorcyclist was traveling in the outside lane of 38th Street approaching Water Street, when a maroon 2013 Chevy Impala, traveling southbound in the center turning lane failed to yield right of way to the motorcycle causing it to strike the right rear quarter panel of the Chevy.  

The motorcycle came to rest in the outside lane of traffic.  

A third vehicle, a 2019 white Kia Sorento traveling northbound in the outside lane of 38th Street struck the motorcycle.

A witness who was traveling southbound on 38th Street observed the crash and pulled over to assist. 51-year-old Pamela Kay Freeman exited her vehicle in an attempt to render aid to the motorcyclist, according to police.  As she crossed 38th Street, she was struck by a 2014 white Chevy Silverado 1500 that was traveling northbound in the inside lane on 38th Street.  

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White in critical condition. Pamela Kay Freeman was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate this crash and information will be released as it becomes available.
