Fans cheer the Houston Astros at Houston City Hall

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner hosted a public rally to support the Houston Astros as they start their playoff run in pursuit of a second straight World Series championship.

The rally was held at noon on Wednesday on the steps of Houston City Hall facing Smith Street.

Houston Astros players Ryan Pressly and Tony Kemp, Astros owner Jim Crane, Astros president of business operations Reid Ryan, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow, mascot Orbit and the Shooting Stars were also at the rally.

"This is a city of champions," said Mayor Turner. "And one thing we know how to do is we know how to win. This Astros team has really made Houston proud. Last year, after a whole lot of water landed on the city of Houston, they lifted our spirits. And I can tell you even as the mayor of the city of Houston, I can never thank them enough. We can never thank them enough for what they did. They carried us in their hearts, on their jerseys, and they brought us a world championship."

Mayor Turner has also ordered everyone in the city to wear orange on Friday in support of the Astros as the team hosts the first game of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians at Minute Maid Park.
