FOX 7 Football Field Trip: Lake Travis Cavaliers

What's the season shaping up to look like for the second ranked Lake Travis Cavaliers? The team is stacked with a lot of talent like senior receiver Garrett Wilson and junior quarterback Hudson Card. Both of whom are already committed to colleges.

Cavs head football coach Hank Carter has nothing but praise for Wilson. "He can run, jump and catch and cut."

"(Wilson) makes your jaw drop every day out here! We're not surprised any more," Carter adds.

Wilson could have used those jaw dropping skills to play big time college basketball but as one of the nation's top high school receivers it's now all about football for the Ohio State commit.

"I've had a dream since I was a young kid to play college ball. Then eventually play in the NFL," Wilson says. "I feel like what keeps me hungry is those goals. I want to keep me grinding and I know I'm not good enough yet."

It's that competitive drive that Coach Carter says is perhaps what makes Wilson truly special.

"You come across kids that are talented all the time - especially we've been blessed to have a lot of talented kids," Carter says. "It's pretty rare to have somebody who loves to compete at the same level that he does. It reminds me of how Baker competed."

Carter would be referring to Lake Travis alum and Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Wilson doesn't have Heisman winner Mayfield throwing to him but he does have future Texas Longhorn and ultra talented junior Hudson Card. Card spent last season with Wilson as a receiver.

"People have gotten the idea that he's an athlete and a lot of people offered him that way until they got a chance to see him on campus in Spring football and they see the ball come out of his hand and the way he can spin it and the way he has command of the offense already," Carter says.

So how does Card handle the high expectations of being the next guy in line of a long tradition of talented players?

"I mean it's an honor," Card says. "Great guys have came in this program and i'm the next in line. I'm just trying to do my thing and be the best I can be."

Wilson says he feels like it's going to be a good year.

"Everyone's making catches and Hud's slinging that thing, extending plays, stuff like that," WIlson says. "So we're gonna be real good this year. He's gonna have the offense looking the same as usual."

Which keeps Wilson's usual goals extremely "catchable".

"By the end of this year, I want to win a state championship here! Yes sir. And then a national championship at the next level," Wilson says.
