AAA Texas: Gas price average up in Texas following holiday travel season

AAA Texas has announced that the statewide gas price average has increased after the busy holiday travel season.

According to AAA, the average gas price is currently at $2.29 in Texas, which is up by seven cents from the same time last week. At the same time last year, gas price averages were down by 32 cents.

The increase in road-travel due to the holidays helped push the national gas price average upwards. According to AAA, market analysts suggest the gas hike should be short-lived. “Gas prices across the state increased after a record amount of travel volume for the year-end holiday period,” said Joshua Zuber, AAA Texas spokesperson. “However, market analysists suggest gas prices could decrease following the holidays.”

Concerning the major Texas metropolitan areas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most for gas on average at $2.56 a gallon, while drivers in Amarillo are paying the least at $2.20 per gallon.
