AFD captain, others recommend changes after concerns over sexual harassment claims

An Austin Fire Department captain and others are putting forward recommendations to create accountability within the department after several female firefighters voiced concerns over claims of sexual harassment.

The accused is able to address the chain of command over complaints, but Capt. Christine Jones wants accusers to also be able to voice concerns and address the chain of command.

Capt. Christine Jones has concerns over the investigation process because of her own experiences where she said a male firefighter made sexist remarks towards her.

The accused is able to address the chain of command over complaints, but Jones wants accusers to also be able to voice concerns and address the chain of command.

Jones also believes the department needs an oversight committee which could hold top fire officials accountable.

Jones says she's been asking for these changes for over a year. She gave the recommendations to the Public Safety Commission on Monday evening.
