Austin district leaders were elated Monday night after voters overwhelmingly approve a more than one billion dollar bond project. The district held a press conference at Rosedale School Tuesday to discuss immediate plans for its students.
AISD Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz could hardly contain his excitement as he shared a story about his son dancing at the good news.
“The winners are our students, our families, the investment that they give us they are going to see in the outcomes for our kids," Cruz said.
The district has 32 projects for individualized schools set in place.
Schools like T.A Brown Elementary will either be re-built or renovated. All of the schools will have advanced classroom technology and security systems.
Rosedale Principal Elizabeth Dickey has been waiting for upgrades to her school for years, Dickey said the outdated structure was not tailored for students with special needs and the new classrooms and equipment will make a difference for her students.
"What Austin did last night by voting for this is going to change our student's lives,” said Dickey. "To have a building that supports them and supports their learning is going to improve their quality of life is going to improve their learning it's going to improve their independence in the community."
