Austin ISD to vote on plan that could include school closures

Austin Independent School District board members are voting on a plan tonight that could include several school closures.

The vote comes after public anger over AISD's plan to close 12 schools and move students to other campuses.

The plan is expected to include other changes across the district including boundary changes, program addtions or expansions and campus consolidations as well.

Other proposed updates include:

  • Providing highly effective teachers at under performing schools
  • Strengthening the acadmic core at every campus
  • Improving special education systems
  • Implementing cultural proficiency and inclusivity training throughout the district
  • Expanding school hours

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
