Austin weather: MLK Day march canceled due to cold temperatures

The cold weather on Monday is making some people rethink their MLK Day plans.

MLK Community March Canceled

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Community March hosted by the Austin Area Heritage Council and the City of Austin has been canceled due to the expected cold weather on Monday.

The community festival, which typically follows the march, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1.

The free festival will take place at Huston-Tillotson University at 11 a.m.

Austin Forecast: MLK Day

What we know:

The polar vortex will send two cold fronts to Central Texas.

One will arrive early Saturday and the other will arrive on Sunday morning.

For MLK Day, high temperatures are expected to be in the upper 30s, with low temperatures in the low 20s.

We could even see some snow on Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Accumulation is expected at under an inch.

What we don't know:

We will be keeping an eye on the potential wintry mix on Monday.

How much, and exactly where and what kind of precipitation, is still not exactly clear as projections could change.

It will depend on the timing of the upper low and how much moisture will be available.
