Body of swimmer found in Lake Travis identified

The body of swimmer has been recovered from Lake Travis and identified by the Travis County sheriff’s office.

On Saturday around 3:22 p.m., deputies responded to an EMS call of a reported swimmer who had gone under water and had not resurfaced in the area of Devil’s Hollow on Lake Travis officials said.

Around 4:05 p.m., deputies declared the search a recovery mission and contacted the dive team. Before they arrived a civilian diver nearby “geared up, dove into the water and the found the body,” the press release said.

Officials identified the swimmer as 36-year-old Luke Fashaw of San Antonio. He was pronounced dead around 4:20 p.m.

According to witnesses, Fashaw was swimming with friends near an anchored pontoon boat.

A statement released by the Travis County sheriff’s office said, “When last seen, he appeared to be swimming normally. His body was recovered from an area 50 feet deep.”

The investigation into the cause of Fashaw’s death is ongoing, officials said.  At this point evidence indicates Fashaw likely died of accidental drowning.

An autopsy was conducted on July 30, 2018 and the final report is pending toxicology results.
