A New York-based manufacturer is recalling ground cinnamon seasoning after testing of a sample showed elevated levels of lead.

Galil Importing Corporation announced the recall of its Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning, which was distributed to retail stores, grocery stores, delis and supermarkets in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida and Illinois between Nov. 18, 2025 and Sept. 7, 2026.
An analysis of a sample of the product conducted by the Maryland Department of Public Health revealed it contained elevated levels of lead, prompting the recall, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Galil Importing Corporation immediately started a voluntary recall and is notifying customers to stop distributing and selling the affected products and place the remaining inventory on hold.
It has also started an investigation of suppliers and is implementing enhanced testing and verification measures to prevent future contamination, the FDA said.
Why you should care:
Short-term exposures to very low levels of lead may not cause any symptoms, but acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead can affect nearly every body system, the FDA’s website states.
"If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time (e.g., weeks to months), permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur," the website states. "This can result in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems."
No illnesses have been reported as of Friday morning, federal regulators said.
What you can do:
The product is sold in 90-gram transparent plastic containers. It carries the UPC code 794711005484 and the lot code GAP11304 can be found on the side of the container under the ingredient line, according to the FDA’s website.
If you find containers of Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning with a matching lot code, do not use the product. The FDA says you should either discard it or return it to the store where you purchased it for a refund.
