Christmas tree recycling kicks-off

Christmas has come and gone, now where do all of those Christmas trees go? Texas Disposal Systems is teaming up with Garden-Ville locations, hoping residents can remember to recycle this holiday season.

Jeff Spencer and his wife are cleaning up the Christmas leftovers.

“A lot of amazon boxes, just trying to clean up the house from the holiday,” Jeff Spencer said.

They frequently come to the Garden-Ville near their home to recycle items they no longer need.

“We live not too far from here and we utilize coming over here quite a bit just to make things easier,” Spencer said.

This holiday season Georgetown and many more area Garden-Ville stores are making it easier for you to recycle that old Christmas tree.

“We repurpose them and put them back into the community by selling the compost and mulch that we create from those products,” Wendy Bradley, Garden-Ville Marketing Manager said.

The Spencers bought an artificial tree this year so they won't be recycling, but they think it's a great idea for others.

“We all have our own individual responsibilities to help out. Some people believe in it, some people don't,” Spencer said.

Garden-Ville stores in Georgetown, Bee Cave, Creedmoor and San Antonio are all teaming up for the effort. Residents can leave the trees outside their home for pickup on recycling service days, if they cannot make it to a facility.

“It's really cool just to see the full life cycle of how we help people clean up things from their house, put it back into the environment,” Bradley.

The locations will be collecting trees from now until Jan.31 enough time to soak in some more beauty of that tree, and then get rid of it the "green" way.

“You can keep your trees up, enjoy them a little longer and then bring them on by and we'll take them for free for you,” Bradley said.
