DAPA supporters gather at governor's mansion after deadlocked ruling
Immigrant families gathered at the governor's mansion Thursday to protest the ruling and Governor Greg Abbott's stance on immigration. The Workers Defense Project organized the vigil in response to today's ruling. The crowd sang songs, chanted words they wanted Abbott to hear, and they promised to continue to fight for immigration reform. Many families at the vigil say this is not a time to give up.
“This was not the ending. We have to keep fighting for this. We want immigration reform now. It's something we deserve, something we're fighting for and something we need to have,” Alejandra Olvera, who supports DAPA, said.
If this did pass, it would have stopped as many as five million undocumented immigrants from being deported.
