Dumbbells sold at Walmart recalled over injury risk

About 50,000 adjustable dumbbells sold at Walmart have been recalled after reports of injuries, federal safety officials said. (The Consumer Product Safety Commission)

Thousands of dumbbells that were sold at Walmart have been recalled over an injury risk. 

Here’s what to know: 

Walmart dumbbell recall

Recalled items:

Tzumi Electronics has issued a recall for FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5-52.5lbs Adjustable Dumbbells.

This includes model 8361, with the serial numbers: 

  • KK23288361 through KK23388361
  • KK207608361 through KK21347836

The model number and serial number are located on the side of the unit’s storage tray. 

By the numbers:

About 50,000 units are included in the recall.

Reason for recall:

The weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing a risk of serious injury due to impact hazard.

Sold at:

These weights were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com from January 2024 through November 2024 for about $100.

Why you should care:

More than 115 incidents have been reported of weight plates dislodging during use, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, with at least six injuries, including broken toes, bruises, contusions and lacerations.

What you can do:

Consumers should immediately stop using the adjustable dumbbell and contact Tzumi Electronics for a free replacement of the dumbbell and tray.
