Evacuations in Bastrop County after crude oil leak

A crude oil leak in Bastrop County has caused officials to ask those within one mile radius of 417 FM 20 (south of Shiloh Road) to evacuate to the River Valley Christian Church shelter at 1224 W SH 71. Those within a two mile radius are asked to shelter in place.

The Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management says that just before 9 a.m. a contractor conducting maintenance on Magellan's Longhorn pipeline system struck a fitting on a pipeline about four miles southwest of Bastrop and caused a leak.

Officials say the preliminary volume estimate of the leak is about 1,200 barrels. They say the pipeline was immediately and safely shut down and the line segment has been isolated.

The evacuations near the site are being done as a safety precaution, officials say, and a section of FM 20 has been closed. No injuries have been reported.

Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management posted a map of the evacuation area on its Facebook page. You can see that above, below or by clicking here.

Crews are on scene beginning cleanup.
