Father of hit-and-run victim pleads public help in identifying driver

The father of a man hit and killed in North Austin is pleading with the public to identify the person who struck his son. Johnny Whiting lost his only son Scott Whiting, 37, on July 23.

APD Lt. Blake Johnson reported Whiting was walking eastbound on the 5700 block of Parmer Lane when he was hit by an unknown driver. It’s unclear how long Whiting was lying on the ground till help arrived.

"A cyclist in the area came upon the deceased and attempted to be a good samaritan and check his status ultimately determining that the victim was ultimately deceased at that time," Johnson said.

Johnny Whiting is searching for justice. He said the pain of losing a child cannot compare to any loss he’s ever felt before.

"The thing is when you start thinking about losing a child there's nothing to compare to it,” Whiting said. "I've lost my mother I've lost my father; I've lost my brother, nothing compares to this."

He had one message for the person responsible for striking his son with a car and failing to render aid.

"In the long run he will feel better if he comes forward. Here's what happens when you know what you did was wrong...it stays with you,” Whiting said. "Everything stays with you, food doesn't taste the same, you don't enjoy music as much as you did, basically you knew you were responsible for the death of a person."

APD is asking for any information that might lead them to solving the case, no information is too small.

Friends and family have created a GoFundMe account where loved ones have left heart felt messages and donations to fund a scholarship in Scott Whiting's name and any additional funds will go toward Crime Stoppers in hopes of bringing justice for Scott Whiting.
