FOX 7 Discussion: Proposition 5 Debate

Voters will soon decide if some of your sales tax dollars will be required to go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the State Historical Commission.

Proposition 5 will be voted on during the election next month.

Currently, the state legislature appropriates some revenue from the sales tax on sporting goods to the state agencies. The Texas Comptroller is responsible for estimating how much sales tax should be given, but researchers say the actual amount given is much less than the estimate.

Proposition 5 would dedicate those existing funds to protect natural spaces in Texas.

Luke Metzger, executive director of Environment Texas, joins Marcel Clarke to discuss the proposition.
