From no-show poll workers to 2-hour wait times, voters faced challenges on Super Tuesday in Austin

With Super Tuesday came with super long lines in Austin.

“It took probably an hour just to get inside the building,” said Jay Quinn who lives in Austin and voted at the University of Texas at Austin library. Quinn took the day off work to come and vote, but little did he know he would be spending about two hours just waiting.

“It didn't move very much. Just moved three steps, four steps wait. It was very slow,” said Quinn.

It wasn't all bad for those looking to exercise their constitutional right; someone ordered pizza for the hungry line around dinner time Tuesday. UT Austin wasn't the only place with a long line, people were out of the door at the Sam Houston state office building and grocery stores had decent wait times which didn't turn away voters.

All this was in the afternoon where the Travis County Clerk’s office said they didn't have election issues. In the morning it was a different story.

“We had kind of an exciting, rocky morning,” said Dana DeBeauvoir the Travis County Clerk. FOX 7 Austin was told dozens of poll workers didn't show up over concerns about the coronavirus.

“The parties have been busy all morning trying to find more people to make up for the people that no showed that quit on us,” said DeBeauvoir. By the afternoon sites were fully staffed.

While turnout was big and the wait long, when it comes to voting, Quinn said he wouldn't have spent his day off any other way. “I'd rather be out here and do this, it was worth it."
