Goodbye KGSR, hello Austin City Limits Radio
KGSR radio is changing its name and playlist.
The station announced Thursday it will be known as Austin City Limits Radio moving forward.
One last time KGSR said goodnight to the City of Austin before Mayor Steve Adler flipped the switch and the station declared over the airwaves, “what you're about to hear is unprecedented.”
Some things radio fans love about KGSR will remain the same. “We started all the way back in 1990, 28 years of being KGSR and, I think even when we started, the guiding principle was let's sound like Austin,” said Emily Parker, Austin City Limits Radio program director.
As the sound of Austin changed, the station decided it was time for them to change as well and for some of the more eclectic radio fans, the new lineup will likely be music to their ears.
“That's kind of the beautiful thing about what we're doing here is that I think it doesn't fit in a genre. In 2018, me, my friends, the people in this world don't listen to music based on genre. We listen to music based on what our friends are into,” Parker said.
“This changes the music dramatically, because we can go from Travis Scott to Willie Nelson, from George Straight to Kacey Musgraves, to Drake to Lyle Lovett,” said Andy Langer, on-air afternoons on Austin City Limit Radio.
Austin City Limits Radio will be on the same stations that broadcast KGSR, 93.3 FM and 97.1 FM.
