Inspired Organics sunflower butter recalled due to listeria risk
WARREN, Mich. (FOX 5 NY) - Inspired Organics LLC is voluntarily recalling one lot of its organic sunflower butter after testing showed a risk of listeria contamination.
Listeria infection can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. However, infections in pregnant women can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and more, according to the CDC, and infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems can very serious and sometimes fatal.
The company sold the sunflower butter, distributed by Lipari Foods, to food-service and retail stores beginning on April 17, 2018, in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The product is also sold in Ontario, Canada.
