The road to be renamed includes portions of an existing roadway extending from Yarrington Road near the Kyle Logistics Park with a planned future extension northeast to High Road.
The city says no residents or businesses will be impacted by the name change as the existing South Goforth Road section does not have any active addresses.
What you can do:
Residents can submit their road name suggestions online here by no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24.
The contest rules and regulations are:
- Profane, derogatory, or discriminatory language will result in automatic disqualification.
- Names that reflect the history, ethnic and cultural diversity, native wildlife, flora, fauna, natural or geological features, or individuals or families significant to Kyle will be given extra consideration.
- All submitted names will be evaluated against existing road names and landmarks to ensure there is no duplication or confusion.
- Please consider the proposed name with one of the following "endings" of street, road, avenue, boulevard or parkway. Example: Kyle Parkway, Kyle Street, Kyle Road, etc.
What's next:
The final selection of the road name will be reviewed and selected by the City Council.
The backstory:
The city of Kyle says that while reviewing recent road construction projects, city staff identified the South Goforth Road Project as a candidate for renaming.
Originally, the road was designed to connect with the existing Goforth Road, but the city says that changes to the project alignment now require a new name to help avoid confusion with existing addresses and mitigate potential emergency response issues.
At the Jan. 21 City Council meeting, staff was directed by City Council to hold a road renaming contest to engage the community and make this a collaborative process.
