Lead found in water at five Austin ISD schools

Five schools with Austin ISD were found to have slightly higher levels of lead in their water, according to AISD officials.

The schools include Lanier, Boone, Patton, Covington and Bailey. AISD was testing their schools for lead as a precaution when the discovery was made. They say the level of lead was "slightly higher than the lowest level of 0.001."

"As a precaution, this year, AISD determined to continue testing for lead in the water," a letter sent home to families read. "This testing is not required, yet AISD continues to go above and beyond what is required for the safety of its students."

In response, AISD is in the process of replacing or installing filters on water fountains that had a higher reading.
