Man killed in auto pedestrian crash identified
AUSTIN, Texas - The man killed in an auto pedestrian crash on November 21 has been identified.
Austin police say 55-year-old James Lee Beasley was attempting to cross the street in the 800 block of East William Cannon Drive at around 7:18 p.m. when he was hit by the driver of a gold, 2006 Mercury Mariner that was heading westbound on William Cannon.
The driver, police say, was in the process of a signaled lane change.
Police say that there is no crosswalk where Beasley was attempting to cross and that the section of roadway is heavily congested with traffic.
There is no indication that driver impairement, speed, lighting or weather or road conditions factored in to the crash.
Beasley died at the scene and was pronounced dead at just before 7:40 p.m.
