Man suspected of Austin sexual assault arrested in Caldwell County on unrelated charges

A man suspected of a sexual assault and burglary last week at the Avesta Solano apartments has been arrested on unrelated charges in Caldwell County.

Jacob Rodriguez, 36, is currently in custody in Caldwell County and Austin police investigators are filing warrants this afternoon.

The assault happened on April 15 at around 4:30 p.m. at the Avesta Solano apartment complex in the 8800 block of North I-35 Service Road southbound.

Police say that the victim told officers that a man knocked on her apartment door and when she answered, pointed a small gun at her and forced her into her apartment.

Once inside, the victim told police that the suspect demanded money. The victim says she gave the suspect her purse.

The victim then says that the suspect told her to go into the restroom where he sexually assaulted her. She says she was able to get away and call 911.
