Murder investigation brings spotlight back on another unsolved case in Hays County
A murder investigation in San Marcos is bringing the spotlight back on another unsolved case in Hays County.
The case against Esaia Morris who admitted to shooting and killing his roommate earlier last week “cleared fast” as San Marcos police said. But multiple times at the press conference Friday for that case, the assistant chief brought up the case involving Justin Gage. They still don't know who killed him, and it's weighing on the minds of local law enforcement.
It's been two months and one day since 20-year-old Justin Gage lost his life, at the hands of someone still unknown. The San Marcos Police Department, not once, not twice, but three times brought up the murder of Gage “So very much want to mention how much Mr. Gage is in our minds. I would like to bring to light that we are still actively investigating the death of Justin Gage who was killed in December of this last year. We are still talking to various people all the time. There’s still tips’ coming in that we have to surf through. There are some other ideas that we have investigatively that we've been trying to lead down,” said Assistant Chief Bob Klett of the San Marcos Police Department.
The Texas State Student was killed during a robbery at his apartment in early December. SMPD said three masked men burst into his home at the Retreat Apartments early in the morning on December 6th. There was a struggle and Gage was shot in the back and arm. He died later that day.
The suspect descriptions matched a prior invasion robbery in the same complex, in November, and Asst. Chief Klett said they are looking to the public for help in either case for leads. “Certainly we are looking for a lot more help from the community from people who might know something, and come forward, and call us, or call Hays County Crime Stoppers and give us a tip,” he said.
The suspects are described as three black males. Two wore a black mask, one wore a white mask.
The family announced they are offering a $3,000 reward for information that leads to arrests or solving the case. This separate reward is in addition to the reward of up to $1000 being offered by Hays County Crime Stoppers.
If you know anything about this case, you're asked to call the San Marcos Police Department.
