New Braunfels man charged in Loop 337 crash

A New Braunfels man has been charged with intoxication assault after a crash on Loop 337 injured a woman late Saturday night.

The New Braunfels police and fire department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Loop 337 for a major crash around 10:41 p.m.

Witness say they saw a 2009 Chevrolet 3500 pickup moving northbound in the southbound lane crash head-on into a 2009 Mazda 5 traveling southbound.

A 43-year-old female passenger in the Mazda was critically injured and extricated from the vehicle by New Braunfels FD. She was flown via Air Care to San Antonio Military Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.

Officers determined the driver of the pickup, a 66-year-old New Braunfels man, was intoxicated and arrested him. He was then transported to the Comal County Sheriff's Office and charged with one count of intoxication assault, which is a third-degree felony.

Loop 337 was closed in both directions for four-and-a-half hours while the scene was documented but has since been reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
