New opening date for New Central Library

The New Central Library has a new opening date. Starting next Monday (8/14), Austinites will have limited access to its collection and that will run through September 15th.

After September 15th, staff will start moving the entire collection to the new library at 701 West Cesar Chavez.

The big grand opening is scheduled for October 28th.

The $120 million project started back in 2013 and will replace the old Faulk Central Library that was built back in the 1970s.

The new library will include a restaurant, art gallery and innovation center which will have a 3-D printer. There will also be a rooftop garden and ampitheater.
