No cancelations at ABIA, but no show ATX band in Brussels

Increased security greeted those arriving and departing ABIA Tuesday morning. Airport police, TSA and homeland security officers made it a point to be seen.

"There's been some extra visibility on the curbside today, and additionally you have that on top of all the other layers of security that we normally have here that ranges from staff that know who to handle security processes to surveillance and also you have k9 detection teams,” said ABIA Spokesperson Jim Halbrook.

The ramp up was in direct response to the attacks in Brussels. It was a strong message that Leonardo Braga appreciated.

"Actually it makes me feel better, makes me feel safe actually."

Braga and his band-mates played SXSW. Tuesday the band was heading home to Brazil. When news alerts started coming out of Brussels - they worried if the crisis could affect their flight to South America.

"Not canceled but delayed,” said Braga.

For an Austin based band that’s already in Brussels, their travel and performance plans have changed. Kevin Fox, front man for Deuce Coupe, spoke to FOX7 Tuesday morning by facetime.

"I'd like to say we are all ok, we've been sending messages out, hopefully everybody has received them,” said Fox.

The Rock-a-Billy group, which recently performed on FOX 7, was in the midst of a three-day, five-show tour. They were scheduled to play a Brussels venue Tuesday night. It’s now canceled.

"No show, but even if we wanted to, I think with what happened this morning in the city, it would definitely change the mood I think if we were still going to  play tonight, with how everybody is feeling and everything,” said Fox.

Fox sent pictures of the band sightseeing around Brussels and performing before the attacks. As well as pictures of them now sheltering in place at their B&B outside of town.

"They've advised us not to, not an official lockdown, but they're advising everybody to stay inside, stay in their homes and contact all the family members that they can and everything like that,” said Fox.

Despite the horrific scenes being broadcast -- Fox says they've also noticed how residents there are pulling together. A unifying spirit that also has the band thinking of home.

"They all pretty much want to say they love their family and we hope to see them soon."

The band returns to Austin on Monday.
