Officials working to put stop to opioids

Travis county is suing the manufacturers, distributors and marketers of pharmaceutical opioids for damages and penalties.

County leaders said the action is necessary to stop the harvesting of profits from human suffering.

County Attorney David Escamilla said he and the district attorney will be working together to recover damages to help mitigate the impact the opioid epidemic has had on the local community.

Filing this lawsuit, according to officials is the first step to recovery.
