One dead, two injured following crash in Northeast Austin

One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after a crash in Northeast Austin.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. an APD Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Avalanche. The Avalanche failed to stop for the officer and a pursuit was initiated. Per standard APD protocol, a supervisor was monitoring the chase and called for the termination of the pursuit.

The suspect vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed traveling eastbound on Parmer Lane when it ran the red light at Dessau Lane.  The Avalanche then collided with a Hyundai Elantra that was in that intersection attempting to make a turn.

“We don't know the speed of the truck we just know after it collided with the white Hyundai, it struck a pole and that was the stopping point,” said Corporal Joe Jackson with Austin police.

The driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche was pronounced deceased on scene. Occupants of the Hyundai were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This case is still under investigation by the APD Vehicular Homicide unit and no further information will be released at this time.
