Padre Island National Seashore says it will be closing beaches to driving due to concerns about Tropical Depression Harvey.

Both North and South beaches will be closed to driving beginning at noon on August 24th.

The National Park Service says it will reassess the conditions each morning to determine when the beaches will reopen to beach driving.

Officials say people should keep a few things mind for this closure:

  • The storm surge is predicted to be 4-6 feet above normal
  • Surges often arrive before the storm
  • This surge will cover the beach up to the dune line
  • Once the beaches reopen watch out for debris
