Parker County sheriff's deputy shot while investigating illegal deer blind

A Parker County sheriff’s deputy was shot while investigating an illegal deer blind Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Larry Fowler says a landowner called to report someone set up a deer blind and was trespassing on his property near Cattlebaron and White Settlement roads.

The 27-year-old deputy approached the deer blind with a flashlight and was shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital.

"The angle of the bullet tells me the guy was right above him and he didn't know it. I'm thinking this guy might have been in that blind and then saw the officer coming on the property and scurried up that tree. The scary part of this is it is over misdemeanor trespassing. Now we have attempted murder. That is scary, very scary," Fowler said.

The sheriff’s office said the unknown shooter got out of the deer blind and ran away. The person was dressed in all black.

The deputy has been with the Parker County Sheriff's Office for two years. He's expected to be okay.
