Police: Man killed estranged wife's new boyfriend
ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police believe a man shot and killed his estranged wife’s boyfriend.
Mark Anthony Washington, 52, was already behind bars for an aggravated robbery warrant out of Little Rock, Ark. He’s now facing a murder charge in Arlington for the death of 29-year-old Juriah Fields on April 15.
Police said neighbors on Rosarita Road near Debbie Lane and Matlock Road reported hearing gunshots just before 4 p.m. When they looked outside, they spotted Fields with gunshot wounds in his driveway. They also reported seeing a white GMC SUV driving away.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, investigators who interviewed the victim’s family said he had been having problems with his girlfriend, who was married to Washington.
That girlfriend told police she was no longer involved with Washington, who she said was controlling, abusive and upset about her relationship with Fields. She said he threatened to “take them both to a field and somehow force [her] to shoot and kill the victim,” the affidavit states.
Facebook messages from Washington to Fields' niece indicated he blamed Fields for ruining his marriage, according to the police document.
Investigators searched Washington’s white GMC SUV and his apartment in Tulsa, Okla. The affidavit states they found a weapon that preliminarily matched shell casings recovered at the crime scene. They also used cellphone, toll tag and gate access records to put him in the DFW area on the day of the murder.
Washington is still being held in the Tulsa County jail.
