Police search for person of interest in recent attacks at Austin mosque

The Austin Police Department is searching for a person of interest in a series of crimes at a local mosque and Middle Eastern grocery store.

APD says there have been several attacks against specific members of the Austin community recently. The person of interest police are searching for was spotted on video at the mosque located at 11900 N. Lamar Blvd on Aug. 29, 2018.

On September 2, four tires were slashed that belonged to a member of the mosque. The same day doors and windows of the mosque were shattered. The person of interest was seen on video, but not caught committing the damage.

On September 13 more tires were slashed on the mosque's security guard's car and a van belonging to the mosque. APD says a window also appeared to be cracked from an attempted entry.

Most recently, on Monday, the front doors of the New Madina Market were broken. The person of interest caught on video there appears to be the same person captured on video at the mosque.

Police Chief Brian Manley released the following statement regarding these incidents:

APD is asking anyone with information to contact them at Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.
