Recently discovered abandoned cemetery turns into homeless encampment

An abandoned cemetery dating back to the 1800s was recently cleaned up by an Austin resident.

The family plot in South Austin has a dozen headstones many with the last name Sneed.

But when he revisited the plot on Monday, he realized it turned into a homeless encampment.

Kyle Keleher posted the photos on Facebook where he says he was "utterly shocked" at how some of the headstones date back to the 1800s. One of the women buried was born in 1793.

But Keleher says it's even more shocking how quickly history can turn into something easily forgotten.
