San Marcos PD officer Kenneth Copeland laid to rest in San Antonio

San Marcos Police Department officer Kenneth Copeland will be laid to rest in San Antonio. He was shot and killed in the line of duty last week.

A funeral procession began at 8 a.m. from the Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos and headed to the church in San Antonio. The public can pay their respects along the way.

Officer Copeland died on December 6th after he went to serve an arrest warrant at a home in San Marcos. He was with a group of other officers.

When the officers knocked the door of the home, a man inside opened fire and hit Copeland several times. 

Copeland had been with the San Marcos Police Department for 19 years and leaves behind a wife and four sons. He's the first SMPD officer killed in the line of duty.

The funeral at the Community Bible Church in San Antonio is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Officer Copeland will be laid to rest on the church grounds after the service.
