Severe storms could threaten Central Texas on Super Tuesday
Morning weather forecast for March 1, 2020
Chelsea Andrews has the morning weather forecast for the first day of March!
AUSTIN, Texas - An approaching storm system will bring rain chances back to Central Texas beginning Monday night.
Sunday and Monday, breezy south winds will help pump moisture into the region from the Gulf of Mexico. In the upper levels of the atmosphere, moisture will also be transported in from the Pacific Ocean.
As an upper-level low swings towards the state from the west, strong upper-level winds and energy will move into the area.
This combination of abundant moisture and upper-level energy will help produce widespread showers and storms, especially during the day Tuesday.
An incoming cold front Tuesday night will also provide additional lift for thunderstorms.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has much of Central Texas under a slight risk for severe weather Tuesday afternoon and evening. If severe storms were to develop, the main hazards would be quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.
While widespread flash flooding appears unlikely, some stronger storms could produce abundant rainfall in a short period of time, leading to some localized flooding issues.
Showers will likely linger Wednesday but come to an end during the day as the upper-level low moves off to the east. Average rainfall totals will be between 1” and 2” from Monday night through Wednesday afternoon. Isolated higher totals are possible, especially around spots like Llano, Lampasas, and Burnet. Wrapping up the work week, expect mild afternoon temperatures and plenty of sunshine.
