Shelters open in Austin in preparation for Harvey

Two shelters have been opened in Austin and are ready to receive evacuees affected by Hurricane Harvey, which has been upgraded to a category 3 hurricane. The city says the Capital Area Shelter Hub Plan has been activated.

The shelters are located at Delco Center at 4601 Pecan Brook Dr, Austin, TX 78724 and LBJ/LASA High School at 7309 Lazy Creek Dr, Austin, TX 78724.

The City of Austin says more shelters will open as needed. They will be announced via the Twitter account: @austintexasgov.

A shelter in Fayette County will open at 7 p.m. for locals only on Friday night. It will be located at Second Baptist Church, 1010 N. Von Minden, La Grange, TX 78945. That shelter is looking for volunteers and staff.

You should always check with local emergency management for availability before heading to a shelter.

The Circuit of the Americas has also opened their RV lot for Texans displaced by the hurricane.
